10. Configuring Newsgroups & Server

Posting files to newsgroups is quite easy once you've setup yEnc32 to use your news server and favorite newsgroups.

To setup yEnc32 for posting, you need to perform the following steps just once before you post for the first time:
  1. Click the Prefs button.
  2. Click the News Server tab.
  3. For NNTP Server, enter your news server's hostname (i.e., news.yourisp.com)
  4. Port should almost always be set to 119.
  5. If your server requires authorization, check My server requires me to login, then enter your Username. Enter your Password if you want yEnc32 to remember it, otherwise it will prompt you for it every time you connect.
  6. Under User Information, enter the Name and E-mail address you want to appear on every message you post.
  7. Next, click the Newsgroups tab.
  8. Click the Add button. yEnc32 will now download a list of newsgroups from your news server.
  9. Select the groups you want, then click Subscribe.
  10. Click OK.
yEnc32 is now ready to post your yEncoded files.

Now, please see the next section for instructions on posting files.

11. Posting Files to Newsgroups

Note: Before you use yEnc32 to post for the first time, you must setup your newsgroups and news server. If you have not yet done so, please read the previous section for setup instructions.

After yEnc32 is configured, here's how you post files to newsgroups:

  1. Click the Encode button.
  2. Select the files you want to encode, then click Open.
  3. Click the circle next to Post to newsgroup instead of Save to folder.
  4. Select the newsgroup you want to post to from the dropdown list.
  5. If your files are large, you may want to break them up into smaller parts before you post them to newsgroups. To do so, check Limit size of yEncoded files, and enter a file size; 512KB to 1MB is usually good.
  6. Click OK. yEnc32 will now ask you for descriptions ("Subject" lines) for each of the files you chose to encode.
  7. For Left side text, enter the text you want to appear at the beginning of the Subject line.
  8. For Right side text, enter the text you want to appear at the end of the Subject line. If this sounds confusing, just try it - under Subject Line Preview, yEnc32 always shows you a preview of what your finished subject line will look like.
  9. Click the File: dropdown box, and choose the next file in the list (if any). Repeat steps 6-8 to enter descriptions for each file in the list.
  10. Click OK.
yEnc32 will now automatically encode all of your files, then connect to your newsgroup server and upload each file.
